ANNETTE BEZOR: Cloning as Ultimate Appropriation

ANNETTE BEZOR

CLONING AS ULTIMATE APPROPRIATION

31 Jul - 25 Aug 2002

"In her new work, Annette Bezor continues her long-standing consideration of themes such as representation, but in a much more focussed and direct manner. These paintings draw on classical, well-known images, but the faces are widened, grossly enlarged and the eyes are now narrowed. The resulting changes in the character in the faces affects the meaning of the images and our response to them.  We tend to evaluate people through their appearance. The re-representation in these images prompts us to rethink our encounters with others.  It reminds us that image is so often manipulated and that we are thus manipulated."
