NICHOLAS FOLLAND | PRESS RELEASE
Hot on the heels of Adelaide’s first IKEA megastore, Folland sets out to once again destabilise the homemaker’s dream. This new body of work, including Installation, small sculpture and wall pieces, continues his focus on the familiar world and the anxiety that results from a yearning for perfection.
Through a subtle renegotiation of domestic bliss, the work mocks our desires and achievements with irony and humour. Our most precious possessions are reshaped in such a way that they threaten to dominate our lives with surplus and excess, while the refuse and recycling, disposed of with casual neglect, is transformed into our reward for potential unrealised.
